Many families long the procession route
make shrines outside of their doorways.

Many of the saints are carried on
smaller individual floats. They go
around the carpets.

In Guatemala City they used firecrackers.
They laid out the strips and then just before
the procession arrived they would set them off!

Here's a very elaborate sawdust carpet. They use
stencils to add the designs. This probably took
about four to six hours to make, depending on
how many people helped.
You can see one of the small floats going around the side.
